Texas State: So stupidly went out one morning, still not in the correct mind set. Don't have a car but my friend was over here so I guess I drove his car with him in the passenger seat. Not even 5 minutes out of my driveway I crash into a parked vehicle. My very first DWI. Cops came, I got arrested, my buddy didn't, had his father come pick him up.

I'm now wondering what I should expect. I hit a parked car, parked facing the wrong direction on my side of the street, although I was intoxicated. I was allowed to drive this vehicle by the owner, with the owner in the passenger seat, I'm not insured to drive this vehicle. I'm very broke and own not a thing if they're option is to possibly sue me. I spent a day and a half in jail before getting bailed out.

Just seems like a sticky situation and decided to ask on here and see what others think

Thanks!

There's no way any of us could possibly begin to offer even guesses as to what might (realistically) happen. I would suggest that you get an attorney ASAP.

Here is a link to the law: http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/division/traffic/safety/sober-safe/intoxication.html

Not only are you charged with a criminal offense, the parked-car owner and your passenger/car owner can also file civil claims against you.

You are in need of an attorney.

You are in need of a lawyer and a reality check.

Your are responsible for the car accident.

Your friend was not driving. You were. Your friend can always say that he thought you were sober.

Being drunk isn't a good excuse. In fact, being drunk makes it worse.

There is nothing "sticky" about this: you are entirely responsible, based on what you have stated, and are completely remorseless.

In addition to a lawyer, consider getting help with your drinking problem. The fact that you aren't all "OMG! I could have killed someone!" speaks volumes.

One thing not yet mentioned that should be mentioned.

DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE! Exercise your right to remain silent. Refer any and all questions asked by the police to your attorney.

Watch the following video to see why talking to the police can be a big mistake.

To start with, You can expect to become very familiar with public transportation, because likely as not your license will be suspended for a period of time.
You can expect to have hefty fine to pay, An attorney to pay and an increase in your insurance rates if and when you get your license back.
You may required to attended AA meetings.
The good news is, any jail time, since you already got a day and a half under your belt, if you're lucky may be waved as time served.
And then there are the costs of the repairs, your former friends car and the one you hit.
All all this little adventure could run you $2500 or more. Most likely more....
Good luck.

Ah, ye of little faith.

We have in fact begun to offer guesses as to what might (realistically) happen. :)

Also, think about employment

Although, I don't agree with what you did. I was young and reckless once upon a time. Fortunately, nothing bad ever really happened to me. However, I agree with Quincy... don't admit to anything when speaking to the police. Getting a DUI/DWI on your record can prevent you from getting certain types of employment. So try to fight it if you can. Do some research.
