What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida. In 2001, my father named his three children and a niece as beneficiaries for his life insurance policy, specifying 30% to each child and 10% to the niece. In 2005, one of the three children died. He never updated the beneficiary statement before he died. How should the proceeds be distributed under FL law?

If you father put nothing in the beneficiary designation how a deceased
bene's share should be distributed, then the policy provisions will apply as justalayman noted.
