What is the name of your state? ca
I bought a 1989 toyota truck deluxe model 4x4 ext cab etc., from a good friend of mine. He knew I was looking so he offered to sell his to me for $1.000 because he owed me several past favors and he wanted to clean the slate. How could i refuse because it was in great condition. It had a few dings on the bed. I painted it and did some body work which is what i do for a living and shortly after that it was stolen. I turned it into my insurance company and sent them the pink slip but i couldnt find the bill of sale. They seemed to be concerned more about what i paid for it rather than what it was worth. I told them i got a good price on it and only paid a a thousand dollars, plus the work i did. They wanted the receipts for the paint and any other upgrade that i added. It looks to me that they only plan to pay me for the money i had in it which is less than 2,000. There is no way i could replace it with that amount. Dont they have to pay what the vehicle is worth, which according to the Kelly blue book, the value is 6,055. What if i bought the truck for a dollar from a rich uncle, would I not be covered then?

I didn't mean to be vague. The guy I bought the truck from is a childhood friend of mine. Through out the years I have helped him through some bad times for example a few years back he had lost his job just before christmas and I was able financially to make sure he and his family had a nice christmas. A year or so before that I payed off a $2,600 loan for him, etc. He is like a brother to me. Now he is back on his feet financially and when he heard I wanted to buy a truck, he saw the oportunity and actually handed me the keys. He wanted to just give me the truck and I wouldn't except it. When all was said and done I payed a thousand dollars for it. He could have sold it for $4,500 easy, and that is before it was painted.
