forced to use ssi to pay past bills.

I lived in Indiana when all of this occurred, I now live in North Carolina. I had a truck repoed because I could not pay for it,because of low income. I tried to refinance but they would not. Now I am hounded to pay the difference of what was owed and what it sold for. Can I be forced to pay for the difference. I am on SSI and have checks direct deposited. This started over 1 1/2 years ago. Thank you Dan
