hello, I am 21 yrs. old. When I was 18, a group of people approached me and presented a "program" which would then better my credit. The group promised to put me on a loan then take me off in about 6 months, my credit would then render good. I was trying to finance a computer during that time for it was needed for my school projects, so I agreed and signed papers. 6 months went by, and a lady along with a notary came by with a paper for me to sign which would relieve me of the loan. Exactly one year ago, I married and had a son. My wife and I were excitedly in the midst of purchasing a home for our new family. Our lender contacted me and stated that I was not going to be able to purchase the home (this was 4 days prior to closing of escrow) because I had a foreclosure on my credit. I presented him with a copy of that document I signed which was going to relieve me of the loan. He told me that what I had signed was just a "grant deed". I now know what is a foreclosure and what is a "grant deed". Apparently, I gave all my rights of the property to someone, but kept financial responsibility under my name. The home is now under my parents name, I cannot purchase a car, I cannot take out a student loan, I cannot buy any new furniture, I have a very bad credit report. Interest rates are down, I wish I could re-finance this home under my name. If I do, I don't want it taken away due to a foreclosure in my history. I do not have any money for a lawyer, luckily financial aid is helping me go to school (this year). Can someone please give me some advice on what I could/should do? I am desperate for a way out of this mess.
