Hello,

I'm in the state of Georgia. I quit my former employer back in June because from February to June he did not pay me my salary. up to that point he owes me over $7000. when I call him to see whats going on with the money he owes me, he just says that he is not able to pay me yet. he mentioned that he had filled for bankruptcy but is still operating the same company. he also owes a smaller amount to another employee who had to quit for the same reason.

I would like to know what I can do to have him pay me what he owes.

Aside from that, another issue is that i'm working freelancing now. a lot of his clients are leaving him because he can't do the job right and they would like me to work for them. when I quit he said I wasn't allowed to work for his current or past clients regardless of who ends that relationship.

so..he wont pay me and won't let me work for clients that come to me, I don't go looking for them. is it true that he can take legal action if I work for clients who come to me?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Regarding the pay, contact the state or federal DOL, or file a claim in small claims court.

Regarding the clients, did you sign an agreement with your former employer stating that you wouldn't take his clients, or did he just verbally tell you not to? If the latter, you have nothing to worry about. If the former, take your copy of the agreement to an attorney to be reviewed.
