What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NV

My office manager disclosed to me recently that the (pregnant) wife of an employee I terminated a few months ago confided to her that she was abused by her husband. This occurred when the wife came to pick up mail at our office, and was sporting a black eye- did I mention she was pregnant? She told my office manager she cannot report him because she is afraid. Being the great person she is, my OM told her she could stay with her if she needed to leave.

I don't know this woman personally, but I do know she was brought here from Peru, knows NO ONE, and the former employee sends money back home to her family. I have a burdened conscience, and would contact her myself, but he does not allow her to have a cell phone, and I think an attempt to contact her would arouse anger and suspicion.

I also know that this man encouraged the wife to have the baby at home, in a bath tub, because his health insurance did not cover pregnancy...

Part of the reason I terminated him was his hot temper, so I can say I am not surprised by this news.

Aside from prayer, what, if anything can I do?

Unfortunately, unless she reports him, she is allowing him to beat her. At this point, requesting a wellness check by the local police is all you can do.

I was afraid you'd say that...

Maybe an innocent gift to the mom/baby will remind her we are here if she needs something...I am afraid of angering this man by having police show up.
