Well, my friends in jail now on assault charges for beating her abusive mother and sisters. They cornered her the other day, and she let loose on them instead of cowering like they had hoped.
Someone heard the mess and called 911, and the cops arrived and took her away. She's now in jail with a 6 month sentence for assaulting her mom. It was more, but the sisters droped the charges. The mother however thinks she needs a taste of "reality" and wants her to sit in jail.
This caused her dad to divorce her mom. The dad put down 3 grand to help with her bail (set at 16 grand) and then left the country to go home to thailand to "re-think" himself. He's quite a mess after the mother tearing away at him for so many years. This family was quite a mess, and the only one that truely cares about my friend (named miew) is her brother (tim), who's working feverishly to get the 16 grand bail gathered to get her out. Sadly tho, he's just about out of options and sitting at 11 grand.

Now, this abuse twards miew has been going on for 5 years, ever since she found her mom cheating on her dad. The mothers fairly nutty, imo.
What im trying to figure out, is if there's a way to bring up a case against the mother, or enough proof of the cuase of this assault being her own abusive attitude and attempted opression twards miew over the years, to make it so that her charges can't be sustained.

Miew btw, is 18 years old now. Just turned 18. Her family is a thai born and raised family, with morals and values from that region. She was kept in doors most of the time, home schooled, and told that if she leaves or does things outside what her parents wanted, she would be beatin (and she was slapped around and choked a few times by both the mom and dad). The dad made a statement to her once, saying "do you see your birth cirtificate? where does it say you're from? that's right, you're not an american, and this is not an american home. americans are terrible people that do terrible things like rape people, drugs, and killing others. We are not american and you will never be one".
Sooo... Yeah. that's the kinda people that im dealing with atm (outside of her brother, who's a very level headed and awesome guy).

That's about all the info that's needed I think. I'm not 100% sure. Please let me know if any extra is needed.
I'm just hoping that there's some catch to this, or some way around it, so that we can either bring the bail down, or get the charges thrown out.

Thanks guys!

If she's already got a 6 months sentence, then bail does not apply. I suggest that you do not have all the facts.

I agree with Zigner, apparently you don't know all of the facts.

If she has already been sentenced all she can do is to serve the 6 months. Then, when she gets out since she is now an adult she should seek help at the local domestic violence agency.
She will most likely need some counseling to understand what DV is and how to get help.

Another friend who knows every little detail of the story as if he/she were riding around on the allegedly abused person's shoulder 24 hours a day taking notes.

What do you mean "we" getting the bail reduced or charges dismissed? YOU have no legal standing.
