gate stolen on private raod

What What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California, El Dorado County. Person cut down the gate that was never locked. Is said to have a receipt. By who I dont know. I'm waiting for a police report. Our road association knows of no issues on the gate. It was built and installed about 40 years ago. Built like a rock. To replace it will cost thousands of dollars. Because of the receipt I think the sheriff may not look into this any further. Should I re-contact the sheriff? Hope you can help us out..Thanks,

What do you want help with? Replace it with a cheap, fixed, obstruction, if you feel it needs to block the road.
