Gave away my appartment

I recently filled out lease paper work, paid a processing fee and a security deposit on an appartment. I made the leasing agent aware of the fact that it may take a few weeks for me to work out the situation with my father before we could sign anything. I contacted him about 2 weeks after when i was ready to sign the lease, he informed me then that he had already leased the appartment to someone else without notifiying me. Is there anything i can do, is that even legal?

So, although you did fill out a lot of paperwork, you did not actually sign a lease, right?

Well, guess you didn;t.

So, how long do you believe he should have waited (with no income from the apartment) while you were getting things "worked out"

is that even legal?

Is what legal, leasing an apartment to a tenant when there was no lease signed for the apartment? Generally, yes but to e sure, did you sign anything specific to this apartment that would commit him or you leasing this apartment?
