What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

I would like to know what keeps happening to my threads? One disappeared so I posted again, then the one I posted is closed and someone said it was a duplicate post. My question was about a job telling a female that they were hiring a male for the position and to basically not bother trying. I asked if that was discrimination. Someone responded by telling me to contact the EEOC. What is the EEOC? I would have replied in the post I started but somehow it is closed. And there is no duplicate that I am able to locate. TIA
