What is the name of your state? Oregon
My employer required me to sign a contract that forbids me to work in his industry for one year "within a 50-mile radius" of the employer's office. I am about to leave for another job in the same industry, but for one year I will work >50 miles as the crow flies from this employer's office. I've found a spot ~53 miles from my current employer. Violations of the contract are very costly and my employer is litigious. What is the best way to determine whether my target location is "safe?"
I have identified a well-regarded civil engineering firm that does mapping for the state's department of transportation. I'm considering engaging them to produce a map based on GIS data, showing the area within a 50-mile radius of my current employer. I'd be certain to work outside that area. Any other ideas on how to determine a "safe" distance? Presumably the engineering firm is insured against errors that would cost its clients. Should I check this? What should I look for?
