What is the name of your state?CA

My girlfriend and I have recently spoken about the possibility of being married after all of the ugliness with my court procedures. She plans on starting law school next Fall and we are talking about doing it in the summer or in the Winter after the first semester of school for her. Our question, mostly mine, because she always tells me that as long as I continue to take care of my children from my previous marriage she will take care of "us". Although I am grateful, it still makes me feel badly. If we do get married would it be wise to purchase a home together or should I just plan that our things will be separate including bank accounts? Again, these are MY concerns, because I do not want my wicked ex to take anything from her. I have no problems paying child support for my children and have 8 more years to go when my oldest turns 18, but I do not want to punish a new wife for a failed marriage on my end. She has asked it is okay to open up educational funds for my children so that when they are old enough for college we will have money saved up, but I'm too worried about having these funds open for fear that somehow their mother will get her hands on it. Please, does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

????

Poster, keep everything separate, bank accounts, finances, etc.

As far as purchasing a home, it can be titled solely to your wife, but CA is a community property state, so I'll hope someone chimes in here with more experience on the subject.

I don't think it was her credit I was worried about, but will my ex be able to take anything away from her. I understand that if we bought a house and put it in her name, that would keep the house safe right? But, would my ex be able to claim that I should pay more CS every year if my new wife's income were to increase more than mine. I am in a job where we (my ex and I) both know how much I will make from now til' I retire, unless I change jobs...just wondering if the ex will be allowed to abuse the CS increase by including the new wife's income and assets. Thanks!
