I often read that it is good to hire a lawyer who used to be a prosecutor of from the same (country club), because "s/he will have the best relationship with the PA's office to work out a plea bargain, or to get a deal worked out. I was once told that I should hire a lawyer that knows the Commonwealth Atty. because my lawyer will be able to express my desire not to expose my accuser's mental illness in public.

My question is what is the best way or what are some ways to find this kind of lawyer? I think that this will benefit most people on this board.

"Do I just call around and say, "have you been a Commonwealth (Prosecution) Attorney before? And if not who has?"

Another question, what can legal aid do for me? Will it help me sue in a slander suit?

My response:

Okay, you're looking for a "Top Gun." Go to your nearest law library and ask the librarian to see the extremely huge book published by "Martindale - Hubbell" which lists all attorneys in your State, including all of their "Stats." Find the one meeting your requirements.

But what really confuses me is how you're going to be able to afford such an attorney when your next question asks about "Legal Aide."

I rather doubt Legal Aide will assist you in such a matter. They usually help the aged and the indigent, and usually over matters of a criminal nature. I think your best course of conduct is, when you're at the law library, to also ask for books concerning Defamation - Libel and Slander. Then, file your claim in Small Claims Court if your matter fits your State's legal definition.
