My daughter and her boyfriend rented a house on a month to month basis together with both of their names on the contract. They put down a security deposit. They split up and my daughter gave her 30 day notice. She has been gone from there for about 2 and a half months. The landlord just went to do the inspection today without notifing my daughter that she was doing it today. So she didn't have the option to be there or not. According to her boyfriend everything was fine. But because he is still living there with his new girlfriend the landlord said she would not refund any of the original deposit. Shouldn't she refund the money and draw up another contract with him and his new girlfriend with a new deposit? I live in Oregon. My daughter is young and I am concerned that the landlord is trying to take advantage of her.
