What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? California

After spending a large portion of my youth in school and making a few unwise choices in room mates to save money, I am finding that my past is returning to haunt me in my professional career. 9 years ago, I got into a rather stupid fight with a room mate over the phone bill and it became violent. Yeah, I participated and kicked his A$$ after being attacked first. We were both arrested. I was released and charges were dropped as I had witnesses that vouched for my initial defensive stance. I was released and never even had to see the judge. The other party had outstanding warrants and remained in jail for several days (see what I mean about poor choices of company).

The Problem: I have a arrest on my record and I just started a new job. I honestly disclosed the information as they asked about arrests, not convictions. I am to be suspended from work untill I can show proof I am not a criminal as the charges showed up on some background check as a felony arrest for assault.

I cant even find out how to go about getting those records and the clerk of the court was not exactly friendly or sympathetic and recommended that I hire an attorney in CA ( I live and work in FL!!!!) I am finding it hard to believe that after all this time this crap is costing me this much social and professional embarrasment. Any advice on #1 how to locate old booking data from 9 yrs ago in Los Angeles County and prove once adn for all that I am not a threat to society? #2 Any way to get this off of my record?

I think you meant to post your link in this message in the next message that asked about expungements (at least that's what your link refers to)??

Since the OP was asking how to get it off their record so that it wouldn't show up again, I posted that as one possible link.

However, for an expungement and such, an attorney is always the best bet.
