What is the name of your state? Texas

I am a 17yr old male. My 18yr old girlfriend and I recently moved into an apartment together. I don't have the option of choosing between highschools, because we only have one in this city. My local highschool's handbook tells me that I cannot enroll myself until I am 18yr old. The handbook states that my parents or legal guardians are responsible for enrolling me into the highschool. Also, who ever is my legal guardian, must have proof of residency within this city. The problem is that my parents don't live in this city, nor anywhere near. The 'age of consent' in this state(Tx) is 17yr for male and female, however I cannot enroll myself, into my local highschool. It is illegal for me to not go to school. That seems like a bad set of laws, but maybe I'm wrong.
The only answer my girlfriend and I have thought of, is to allow her to be my legal guardian, which is weird, but we have decided to do it, nontheless. So, that is what will happen, as long as it is legal.... is it?? If it is legal, how do we go about doing this?

I bet that title for this post will get some traffic- LoL

Unless your parents grant her permission to act as your guardian, THAT ain't gonna happen.

I know they will. So, now that I know it is legal, how do I do this?
Well ... not being from TX I am not quite sure. Contact your local family court and ask them how its done.

Texas does not have a law to give a minor “emancipation”, but it does have a law called “Removal of Disability of Minority”, located in Chapter 31 of the Texas Family Code. Maybe that would allow me to not only enroll myself, but have other options open to me- like getting married! .... I only know of this law, but I don't know the specifics. Do you have any additional information on the "Removal of Disability of Minority"??????? I don't know where I can look up that law.

This is probably the most crazy question this forum has had in a while. Could I marry my legal guardian(girfriend) after I turn 18yrs old, or would she be considered a parent. Would we need to get the guardianship removed first?

Nevermind this question. I just now found out that you can have a power of attorney appoint a temporary guardianship on a minor as long as both parties agree. coolness...

Giving you credit..

Even with a lot of the rude remarks posted there is one thing you haven't been given credit for, and that is that you WANT to go to school! I have to commend you. I hope you don't give up staying in school. If you have a friend that goes to the school you want to attend, maybe they could talk to a school counselor about your situation. When my youngest was a junior in high school, the school gave him a complete suspension from the school system because he was flunking gym for not dressing. It was absolutely ridiculous. The following Monday I had him enrolled in an alternative high school. He ended up in the gifted and talented program and was a straight "A" student. Don't give up.. I wish you the best. As far as the idea of getting married.. DON'T!

LoL thanks, but we dont want to get married, at least, until we graduate from highschool. We will both go to the same highschool if I can get myself enrolled, somehow darnit.
