And who told you to ask your ex's lawyer?
I'm thinking that if she is representing herself, she would be dealing with the X's lawyer. Unfortunately she doesn't know enough (legally) to negotiate effectively or properly ask for the continuance.

I was told that i had to ask my ex's lawyer for the continuance and I did and he and his lawyer said no (no surprise).
That was for a continuance by agreement, which they declined. You still need to ask the judge, on the date of court, if he will allow a continuance in order for you to obtain counsel. It is very likely that he will say no, so be prepared with your witnesses, etc. You are requesting the continuance so that there will be a record of your request if you need to appeal an adverse decision following the hearing.

You really need to hire any atty for this court date, if at all possible. Borrow the $ from family members and/or friends and call an atty tomorrow.

Update this post after court, and let us know how it went. Best of luck to you.

And I agree with that... however as we all know ignorance of the law isn't an excuse. When we start listening to those that are 'suing' us we really have hit rock bottom. I suspect she got this information from her ex.

Unfortunately many people who can not afford an attorney- have family in the same situation. I drastically restricted my style of living and am in debt for years...and feel fortunate I was able to do that! Even with being familiar with the court system to an extent, being on the other end of it was a shock to say the least.

This is a prime example of the effect on society, when there is an imbalance between the parties- financially.

Today is Friday and i've been every where trying to find a lawyer and i have nothing. Some of the lawyers told me to get affidavite of everything, and if i had to go to court lawyerless to ask for a continuance. The lawyers i spoke to wanted 3000 to start the case and it is such short notice. If i had 3000 i would have been hired a lawyer. Well wish me tons of luck and i will update on tuesday when i get back from court alone with noooooo lawyer.

There are reports of his anger managemnet issues. he's been to jail a few times for this. He's not re-married he's with the same women he's always been with.
You need to keep your story straight. There is a huge difference between abuse and anger management issues.
