What is the name of your state? Illinois

I was living at an apartment with a roomate. His girlfriend moved in and then a couple months later he asked me to leave, and that he would take care of the bills. I went to the office and told them I was leaving. I should have gotten some kind of proof though, because they never took me off the lease. My old roomate abandoned the apartment and left it trashed. They ended up suing us for $4700. They won and I had to pay half. I had been fighting it with my lawyer but the evidence was too easy for the apartments to win. If I went after my old roomate would I have a case, since he is the one that abandoned the apartment and told me that he would take care of the bills? I now owe $2350 plus all the attorney fees and there is now an eviction on my record. What kind of case would I have against him? Please advise.

IMO... no case...curious as to why you did not ask your lawyer this.

I did ask her. She said it would be a pretty easy case, I just wanted other opinions. I have proof of residence out here, and proof that he was subletting after I moved out.
