Ok well, here is how it goes. My friends father recently was driving his truck down a road in my town. He came to a part of the road in which the opposing traffic, if going fast enough, can jump their cars. As he was going around the bend on that road, a man in a car was going fast enough that he jumped the car and hit my friends father's truck. By the time my friends father had gotten out of the car, the man driving the car had fled the scene. This all occured at 6:00 am. After police arrived, they quickly found out who the owner of the car was and went to his house. Upon arriving to his house, the man's father had said that the owner of the vehicle was not home (this was around 6:30 am). At around 6:30 pm, of the same day, the car that was in an accident was reported stolen. This was over 12 hours after the accident had happened. Both my friends father and the owner of this car have the same insurance company. The insurance company said that since the car was reported stolen, that my friend would get no compensation for his car from the other driver. Is this right? After 12 hours of the accident, the car is reported stolen to the police, and they consider that legit even if the car was in an accident 12 hours earlier? The state in which this occured was Pennsylvania. Any help would be appreciated. This truck was valued at $12,000 by Kelley Blue Book.

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Guess what? The person who was hit has a great lawsuit against their insurance company! Reporting a car stolen 12 hours later especially when the police were already aware of the accident and perpetrator 12 hours earlier, does not make for a good "stolen car" case.
