What is the name of your state? Florida
My grandchildren went for a visit with their father's family, as they have done before many times. This time, however, Grandma M made excuses for not returning that night, sent the older child to school the next day, and kept the baby. My daughter is being told she can do nothing about it since her husband, the father, has given his mother permission to keep the child. Can this be true???What is the name of your state?

Far more information is needed. Are the parents married? Is their visitation/custody orders? Who has visitation and custody now?

I'm betting dad took the kids on a planned trip and decided not to come home. I'm a little confused about the whole 'sent the oldest to school' thing though. Isn't school out in the majority of districts?

Nope. My daughter finished yesterday but many schools in Ohio go through this next week. Some schools get out early but there are a LOT still in school. And I missed the husband... Of course there still could be a temporary custody order.
OP is there a temporary custody order which is often given when going through a divorce? If not then hubby has as much right to the kids as you do. Grandma doesn't but if you show up watch Grandma call dad. Again, more information is needed.

Papers have been filed for a divorce but after Grandma M had the baby in her possession. My daughter filed for something called expedited custody. Is there anything I can do?

Aren't you one who hops on people who ask questions for "friends" and relatives? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Thanks for the insights. I was stunned by the news - she seemed like such a sensible woman. I guess it will get worked out in court. I've been told there is a hearing soon.
