A week and a half ago I got caught stealing at my job. I was fired immediately and since they suspected that it wasn’t the first time they went back and checked my records. Sure enough they saw that I had stolen approximately $3,000 dollars. I was called in to pick up my final check. As we were discussing all the stuff I had done I was detained by about 5 Sheriff deputies. I was led to the back office (in the restaurant I worked at) and I was asked if I took the money. I was not handcuffed however I was searched, patted down and no Miranda rights were read. I confessed to everything and returned what was left of all the money I took. ($420 dollars) I also told them that I had about $300 dollars at my house in a savings envelope the rest had gone to pay all my back bills. I thankfully had a receipt for all the money orders I had gotten in the amount of my bills and handed it over to prove that I wasn’t lying about where all the money had gone. Some more questioning went on about the different reasons why I did it. At the end of the questioning one of the deputies called his Sergeant to ask about what I should be charged with. He explained that I was totally cooperative that I was not a flight risk and that I was totally honest about everything that I had done. When he got off the phone he said that grand theft was the charge. He then told me that one of the deputies would take me to my house so I could turn in the rest of the money I had left so that the amount I was charged with wasn’t any higher. I was led out to a squad car, again no handcuffs or any visible sign that I had been arrested. I was taken to my house by 1 officer. I got the money we went back to my job where I turned in my uniform the money and I apologized to my boss. The officer walked me out to may car and by that time we were laughing and joking a bit. H egave me a card with my case number on it and said I would be contacted one the investigation was completed. I have not received a call yet and I’m a little worried as to what exactly my punishment may be. Can anyone help?
