What rights, if any, does a grandparent have of an only grandchild? Can a grandparent get court ordered visitation?

My daughter and granddaughter lived with me for the first seven months of her life; lived in their own home in the same city for 14 months; and then moved to Mississippi for the past few weeks. The child is 22 months old.

Her mother and I do not get along very well now and that child has always been a part of my life. I don't want to loose her out of my life.

my inlaws did sue for visitation rights when we went to court - this was over 5 years ago. they received one week during the summer and every other grandparents day. assuming that their son would allow visitation during the time that he had them.

their reasoning was the same - they feared that i would move off or that they would not be allowed to see their grandson when we divorced.

the supreme court ruling - not so new anymore - kind of did away with the rights of the grandparents. of course, each situation is different, but the just of it is that the parents are allowed the right of who will see the children when they have them.

is the dad still in your area? is there the chance that he would allow you to see the child when he has visitation? does he have a form of visitation?
