What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WI

Long story (as they all are). 2 kids and I are living with my parents. Having some boundary issues with grandparents in terms of their responsibilities (they have none, but think they do because we are in their house). Been dating a wonderful man and no, not a bed warmer. But he doesn't live nearby; in fact, it's states away. They have threatened that if I decide to move away to be with him (married or not), they will go after custody of one of my children.

So my question is do they actually have any grandparents rights in this state? I don't think just because I live with them they get some sort of "right" to try and gain custody because they don't agree with me and my decisions. Just want some clarification before I tell them they are wrong (because I don't think they have any rights nor could, but just checking things out first). Then looking for an apt.

Custody, most likely no. Visitation, maybe.

Wait for more seasoned advice and try google. "Wisconsin grandparents rights".

Since they are YOUR parents, no. However, the parents of the FATHER(S) of the children may.

Legally you are correct. HOWEVER, you live in their house and likely they provide SOME support for you and your children. If you want independence, you will have to be independent. Move and pay your own way.... get your own way.

Look for the apartment and move FIRST... before you start demanding or expecting independence and 'freedom'.

Maybe you need to move out on your own...that way YOU can make the rules in your own house...

While I agree that while living in their home you are subject to their "house rules". They aren't going to gain custody of your children simply because you make the decision to move out of state. The ONLY person(s) who can stop you from moving out of state is the father(s) of your children. Grandparents cannot stop you from moving out of state.
