What is the name of your state? New Jersey

Hey there!

At the beginning of the semester, I received a refund check for $1300 from a state school. It read as an "ACG" grant. I wasn't sure if this money belonged to me so I called and verified and they told me that if was rightfully mine. So after that, I felt secure and deposited the check.

I recently just received an invoice for next semester's tuition and fees. I saw that there was a strange "Previous Balance" of $1300 that I could not figure out. So I went over to the financial aid office the next day to inquire. They looked it up in their system and told me that it was a grant that I originally qualified for then disqualified for due to some income tax issues. However, the income tax issue and the time they sent the check were 2 semesters apart. So I don't understand why they would send me money late that I didn't deserve.

So now they are making me pay all the money in full in a month, and something about this does not seem right to me. Is there anything that I can do? Can I somehow demand to only pay partial the amount or in small increments? Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks a lot.
