If my husband has medical insurance through my plan (as a dependent on my plan), does that automatically make me a guarantor on his medical bills? I have not signed my name to any forms stating that I will take responsibility for his medical bills. We live in Florida; the hospital that is pursuing me as a guarantor is in Illinois. My husband is alive, though terminal.

I don't know about your state, however in Tennessee, even though we are not a community property state, we do have a law that says as long as you are legally married you are responsible for your spouse's necessities and defines necessities as food, utility and medical. That may be the case there and they are just stating guarantor. What did they say when you asked them what made you guarantor since you didn't sign anything?
