What is the name of your state? IL

Five year old lives with mother.
Mother asks father to take him (don't know why).
Father lives in his sister's house, so child moves in with them.
Father moves out, but leaves child with sister.
Child still sees mother (and probably father) occasionally.

If the child will be living with the father's sister for an indefinite period of time, is there anything the sister should do (seeking guardianship or something else)?

Thanks in advance

absolutely...or how else is she going to seek medical or educational needs?

At the very least a P.O.A. for these things from the dom. courts in her county. Does she WANT guardianship and or even custody? Or does she just think she is baby sitting? ;)

That is my concern, but she hadn't really thought about those things. I have given her a referral to a local social services agency, so I hope she checks it out.

She chose or agreed to keep the child and provide support, but I don't believe she knows how long he will be there. Also, I have no idea whether the parents would agree to guardianship or POA, but believe that she should be aware of her options.
