I am a convicted felon
I am a Florida resident but was convicted while in Georgia during my military service 15 years ago.
If I petition to have rights restored do I do it in Georgia or Florida? Are there any other legal courses of action other than restoration of rights that would allow me a firearm for personal defense?

It was a local county charge in liberty county Ga.

Then to get your rights restored under federal law you need to get your rights restored in Georgia. See the U.S. Department of Justice page on restoration of firearm rights.

You need to also make sure you are not prohibited from possession of a gun under Florida law, too.
