I am trying to have my gym membership cancelled in Florida. As stated in my gym contract, under "Disability", if I provide them with the correct documents I have the right to cancel. From day one I have gotten the run-around. To begin with, my gym uses another company to handle the cancellations and billing. Even though my doctors office has given them a certification of disability, this company says "it doesnt matter" because my disability is "temporary". No where on my contract does it differentiate between "temporary" and "permanant" disability. They still refuse to cancel my contract, so I filed a complaint with the Florida Division of Consumer Services (who regulates my gym). After reviewing my case, they told me I was right, the gym should cancel my membership. To date, the gym has not responded to inquiries from the Division of Consumer Services (who are attempting to mediate on my behalf). Ok, fine, I then checked with the BBB...and to no surprise found that this gym has a bad history with BBB, due to numerous complaints and the fact that the gym wont respond to the complaints. So I filed a complaint with BBB, as well. Meanwhile, I have still been paying my monthly fees for the membership...so yesterday I cancelled the direct payment from my bank. I am sending a notice to the owner of the gym, stating my grievances, and to let them know that I am stopping payment. What do I do now??? I am having a very complicated pregnancy...and this stress is only making things worse. Now Im on medication to stop preterm labor. I just cant deal with this anymore...any advice for me??

 karyn

Anyone?

BTW, even a pat on the back would be good here...at least then I would know that I have done the right thing so far! :(
