So I couldnt figure out which board to post this on. :) Here's the deal. My boyfriend, 19, is in a halfway house, when he is released, in a few weeks, he will be on federal probabtion. Well for the last week, every time I come home to the apartment we share, there has been a note from his mother, the most recent threatening to call the police if I don't let her move his stuff out. 1. He is 19, an adult who can make his own decisions, and he has TOLD me not to let her move his stuff. 2. The boy owes me something around $5000. 3. She knows when I work, and she always comes by while she knows I'll be gone.

So finally my question... If she does call the police, can they do anything? Remember he is 19, I am 22, we are both on a one year lease at this place. But I thought a parent can not force an adult to move back home? This is in Utah. Any advice, opinions, will help.

Well, to answer your questions. The answer is that she cannot do anything. He is a legal adult and she has no power over him. The second reason is not a good reason. Just because he owes money is no reason to withhold his things. He could press charges, but his mother cannot. The third is that I am assuming that the mother doesn't have the courage to face you and knows she has not power over what she wants done. You could always have her charged with harassment... the best advice would be to listen to what your boyfriend says about it and to tell his mom to stop harrassing you. Don't tell her you will report her for harassment. If your going to, just do it. Because if you tell her, then you would be guilty of the same thing.

Thanx for the advice. :) Sorry I didnt mean to make it sound like I wasnt gonna let him take his stuff cuz he owed me money. It does look like I meant that, but I didnt. If he wanted to move out, then I have no problem with that. Anyways, I havent ever actually talked to the lady. She called me, how she got my number is beyond me, cuz I work directory assistance, and I am listed under a totally different name which she doesnt know. Anyways, I was visiting my BF, and he wanted to list it, and then he deleted in, cuz he didn't want me to hear it. I havent heard anything else from her since sunday, so I don't know if he finally got thru to her, or what. But thanx!!
