Hello, this is my first post so if it is in the wrong place please help me move it to the right place.
I have been exposed to all kinds of harassment from my ex girlfriend for the past 6 months. Everytime I want to file a court order I feel sorry for her and end up changing my mind and I think she takes that as a weakness and keeps doing what she does. For example, she used to show up uninvited to my doorstep and I ask her to leave many times and she refuses until I call the police ( 4 times already, twice she was handcuffed) and they escort her out, she has people stalk me and follow me everywhere, she keeps harassing me with about 40+ phone calls a day from different numbers and well as send me over 60 msgs, the content of those calls or msgs is usually very abusive and is full with scary threats for example ( if you don't take me back you will go straight to the grave , or other very and extremely serious threats and insults in all different kinds) . at one incident she was waiting for me at my doorstep when I returned with my new girlfriend and pushed her way into the apartment went and took a knife from the kitchen and threatened to cut her veins on my bed so I get arrested unless my new girlfriend leaves. I cant stay like that and have decided she needs to be held accountable once and for all and will therefore be doing a restraining order plus I want to sue her in court. She has caused me to be fatigued emotionally as im always looking over my shoulder thinking she will show up with a weapon or send someone else with a weapon to hurt and/or kill me. She has made it clear she will hurt me and my family and destroy my life and kill any girl im with etc etc... I will unfortunately have to change my residence which I love so much and always hide my car because im afraid she will do something as she has claimed many times.
What is the best/first step I should take to do this the right way? Probably hiring a lawyer? What kind of lawyer would be able to help me in this case?
p.s. she is an illegal alien
