What is the name of your state? Illinois

I was hired to work on the trading floor of a large bank a few months ago. I noticed almost immediately after starting that my Supervisor was the rudest person I had ever worked with. He was constantly insulting me and others on our team (some were his equals), putting me down etc. He was completely shameless, pompous and self important. I complained to HR 3 times and was told there wasn't a whole lot to do except file a formal complaint and start an investigation. I opted not to do this but instead resigned a few months later and stated the obvious reasons why.

I am confident that many others carry the hatrid for him that I do. After I left, a few others came forward to our department manager and filled her in on more horrific details about my former supervisor. She was disgusted and assured something would be done.

I was just informed today that my former supervisor has someone terminated for no reason. I am fed up with him even though I no longer work there.

Is there anything I can do legally as far as filing a harassment suit with my former co-worker who was terminated? What are the laws surrounding this? Does this qualify as harassment? He made blatent and inappropriate remarkes (not sexual) regarding our personal and professional lives which drove us to dispise him.

Please help!!

Is there anything I can do legally as far as filing a harassment suit with my former co-worker who was terminated? No. Being an ass is not against the law.

What are the laws surrounding this? That being rude, obnoxious, and detested by everyone for good reason is not unlawful.

Does this qualify as harassment? He made blatent and inappropriate remarkes (not sexual) regarding our personal and professional lives which drove us to dispise him. Nope. This is not prohibited harassment.

re:

Is there any possibility that he could be terminated if enough people complained? I want to know that HR is going to make sure something happens since people are having trouble with him.

Of course it's possible but there aren't any laws that require an employer to discipline or discharge someone because they're an obnoxious ass. If the guy is world class trader and making beaucoup bucks for the bank and their clients, they may well be willing to overlook a lot of nasty behavior they wouldn't tolerate in someone else. It's called a "saving grace."

There just isn't any way you can compel your employer to get rid of this guy and if it's obvious that's they're not going to do anything about him, then it may be wise to keep your lip buttoned so you aren't perceived as a whiner and a complainer. Management could become frustrated with you if you just don't "get" that they're going to keep the guy no matter how boorish and obnoxious he is.
