i am having trouble getting affordable life insurance because of a history of mental health problems. now that I have a wife, a daughter, and a mortgage, the issue is important to me. Can you help?

This is NOT a legal question.

People who have health impairments and thus have to pay much higher premium rates for life coverage (they really do present a higher risk actuarially, as a class), can sometimes benefit from maxing the amount of group coverage and optional group coverage they can get on the job (that's often based on a blended rate, and thus the less healthy folks luck out) or from organizations they belong to, or spouse's coverage.

Also ask a broker who specializes in "substandard risks" as some of the carriers are more tolerant of certain types of impairments or risks than others, and thus don't heavily penalize those with risks that others would severely rate.
