To group and a special hello to Beth:

One of our new "commission only" employees (Ben) from Texas was looking at extending his medical option via cobra which was about 411.00 per month. Economically, this did not make sense to him and he checked with his wife's plan and he could be added on for 100.00 per month. However they were requesting some letter from the previous employer about his reason for termination, since he is enrolling in a non-enrollment time period, which his previous employer is refusing to write, they are trying to claim an issue of Ben trying to steal away clients which was noted in his previous contract. Which Ben is not doing.

P.S. His wife is part of a school system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How long has it been since his coverage with his old employer was terminated?

Health/Cobra

Dear CBG:

April 30th was his last day of medical coverage. We hired him May 1st. Real nice guy, I just want to help him out. By the way,I am the Controller for this small company with 11 employees but get involved in Human resources matters.

Thanks,

In that case, I'm not sure why they need to know the reason for his termination. All they need to know is that he became ineligible for coverage at his old employer and he is applying to come onto his wife's coverage. Since it is within 30 days of the end of the old plan, they should automatically pick him up; even though it isn't open enrollment, most if not all plans have a contingency where an employee with a Change in Life Status (which changing his job would be) can be picked up on the plan as long as the application is made within 30 days of the end of the old coverage.

Are you sure that they want the reason for termination and not just verification that he's no longer covered on the old plan?
