What is the name of your state? KY

I filed chapter 7 and had my creditors meeting in January, waiting for the discharge to come in March. One of the debts I filed on was a Visa card I received through the credit union where I work. Now I've received a letter in the mail that tells me my rights to Cobra insurance. It doesn't say anything about cancelling my insurance but it gave me the feeling that that's what lies ahead. My health insurance is partially employer-paid. Can they cancel it or make me take out Cobra insurance? I'm still working and have been with the company for 26 years.

I've never heard of health insurance being cancelled because you file for bankruptcy.. and it makes NO sense at all. If you're getting info on COBRA, perhaps you'd better ask your employer if they're letting you go or if something else is afoot. I'd be calling HR ASAP on Monday morning !

I suspect that all employees received updated information about COBRA. I wouldn't think this is suspicious. You've probably received updates in the past and thought nothing of them.

Good luck.

I wonder...

If you file bankruptcy and include, say, an electric bill, the debt is forgiven however the electric company is not obligated to give you credit (service) in the future.

If you file bankruptcy and include a debt from your employer (the Visa), is the employer required to give you benefits (health insurance)?
