I'm in Texas. My baby was born with hypothyroidism.

I have a 3 month old infant who must get blood drawn about every 8 weeks. Since she was born, her heels have been scarred by incompetent lab techs and the newest scenario is that I finally get to a specialist at a children's hospital, but when it comes time to get the bood drawn, I have to go offsite, away from the TRAINED staff who work with infants and children. All because the insurance company wants ALL their patients to go to the same place to have bloodwork done.

Yesterday, I have to tote my 3 month old and 2 year old off to some lab in an unfamilar city to get there and have them freak because she's a baby. They try TWICE to get a vein in her arm just to say "We don't get many babies"....then send me off to yet ANOTHER lab down the road...I get lost, my baby is crying, and I spend 2 hours and 20 minutes doing what should have taken a few minutes had I been "allowed" to keep my daughter in the children's hospital to have blood drawn. I do finally get the blood drawn, but I DO NOT want to put my baby through that again! IS there anything I can do to make sure I can stay where the trained staff are instead of going somewhere where they are afraid of babies????

Contact your insuranace company and request a list of authorized labs in your areas. If the hospital is on the list, or if it is contracted with your insurance company,I dont see why you cant have them do it. There might be another lab in your area that has more experience with babies/children.
