I am currently trying to cover my granddaughter under my health insurance in Houston, Texas. I have called my benefits line & they have stated that the company will not cover grandchildren. My daughter is 16 years old and living with me and is covered under my insurance. My understanding is that as long as I can prove that I can claim her as a dependent on my federal income tax I should be able to add her to my health insurance, but I have no documentation to support that. They are saying that I have to adopt her or become her legal guardian to cover her, which a rather not do. Thank you in advance.
