i live in illinios, my father had health insurance through his job, at a steel mill in chicago. in may he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, he has been going to chemotherapy and the insurance was covering it. a couple of weeks ago the insurance company canceled the insurance, can they do that, in the middle of treatment?

In order to answer this intelligently someone would need the full information as to the reasons for the cancellation -- for example did your father's employer not pay the premium, or go out of business? did your father not make the co-pay if needed? was there claimed fraud or misrepresentation? was your father a member of a union? if so, what has it done about the matter? which health company was it and has it been placed into receivership? etc.

Generally employer provided health insurance is covered by ERISA and the US Department of Labor exercises oversight. Contact the employer, the Department of Labor and your state insurance department to see what's up.
