In the case of a life changing event, let's say you discovered you had cancer, you have no money or transportation (which is a priority because you need medical attention), and you must move out of your apartment before the lease is up. You notify the landlord a month before you plan to move out that you will be moving, yet the landlord still will not let you out of the lease and turns the matter over to collections. Nevermind that you never got a copy of the lease because "they don't give them out." We have tried to compromise with the landlord by offering to pay half (we really can't afford that either and he also kept the deposit) but he wants it all. Is there anything we can do?
