What is the name of your state? my buddy and i come up on a road block while riding in my truck...he was driving and when he see's the road block he turns off on a dirt road before the road block. we both get out of the vehicle and the cops show up with him sitting on the back of the truck and me standing to the side. i was never asked any questions and he never told them who was driving, he did lie to them like saying we had been there and that he wasn't driving. well he takes a breathalizer and is arrested for dui after blowing a .19 after he's in cop car they ask me to blow so that if i'm under the limit they'll just let me drive my truck home instead of towing it. well i blow a .04 under the limit so i'm allowed to drive home. after he found that out he told the cops on the way that i was driving the vehicle and he never was. now he is telling me that both his lawyers and the cops say that if i come to court and testify that i was driving he will get his dui droped and they can charge me with nothing since i blew under the limit and was allowed to drive home. so what should i do....i want to help him, but i've had several run ins with the law dealing with alcohol and i'm screwed if i get into anymore trouble. any advice is much appreciated....thx :) forgot to include but we are both of legal age to drink

A few questions.....

WHY in the name of God would you get in a vehicle with anyone who was that drunk? Are you out of your MIND? You're damned lucky to be alive.

If you were sober and he was bombed, what possessed you to become a passenger while this a$$hole drove drunk?

Let him take what he has coming to him. Two things...if you lie for him, you set him loose to do this again. And, if he's not held accountable for his actions, he WILL do this again (and someone else may die because of it) If you lie for him, you have to go to court, take the oath and commit perjury....a crime that YOU could be held accountable for.

Step back. Do the right thing. Have some character, be a man and don't lie. It demeans you.

eh we was just going back roads to get some smokes so we weren't going fast enuff to kill a rabbit and i know drinking and driving is one of the stupidest things you can do but everyone makes mistakes and this one will screw up the rest of his life cuz theirs no way he could seal his record with the youthful offender and what not and i don't want that stuff to happen.....so other then lying under oath nething else that could happen? i mean can i get charged for tryin to elude though we merely turned off on a road that was infront of the road block instead of turning around or any other charges?

Well, it sounds as though you've already made up your mind to screw up YOUR life to make his all better. I take it you're pretty young. If you were older and more mature you'd realize and appreciate that commiting perjury is WRONG....BIG time wrong. Criminally wrong.

But, hey. Kids (even those just barely legal to drink) think that their friendships are the entire world and not much else matters. The fact that you're willing to potentially throw away your life coupled with the fact that you lacked common sense and sat passively by while your friend risked YOUR LIFE, shows that you'll do anything for him. So, go ahead and lie. It shows your character, son. However little of it there may be...

And, PS? Unless your friend was SERIOUSLY traveling at 5 miles an hour? He WAS going fast enough to kill you. And, quite honestly....he didn't give a DAMN about your life, yet you're willing to throw yours away for HIS? Wow....amazing. Stupid AND amazing.

No, but we all know that admitting to something you haven't done so your alcoholic buddy walks and you get a longer criminal record is a completely braindead thing to do. But it's your life and your rock bottom future, so go ahead and not take the only decent advice you'll ever get, and watch your buddy keep treating you like the doormat you want to be for him.

Good luck.
