HELP! City government refuses to accept payment in cash or check.

I came to pay my tax to the city. I was told that the city is not accept
payment in cash or check from anyone.
They receive morney order or cashier check only.
Does a local government agency have the right to refuse payment in cash when
the U.S paper money had this note: "THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS
PUBLIC AND PRIVATE." ?
It costs me and every one in this city $5 to buy a money order from a bank
located beside the city hall every time we come to pay for any kind of
taxes, licenses, permits....
Any help, suggestions would be appreciated.

Were you delinquent and did you pay by check before and it was NSF? How much was your tax bill? Did you ask why the no cash/check policy?

Its true..someone had their hand in the till, or some checks were missing...

Therefore they take it out on the public instead of firing the employess like any normal business would do..

So instead of firing a government worker for incompetence in losing the checks, or just outright theft, or what it they cant count? Oh thats discrimination so you have the unions.. the naacp, the gay / lesbian coalition to protect their jobs...

It happens all the time, same here in NYC, they wont take checks or cash or CRDIT CARDS., so you have to go out of the buliding
then walk 3 blocks to a bank, come back, wait in line then go thru metal detectors again with a money order....
