My grandmother took out a personal loan so my husband and I could have a car. We agreed to make the payments to her. Since then my husband walked out on me and our child, leaving no roof over our head, no money, as he gambled it way, and he took our new car. The title is in both our names, but is stated "OR"
My question is, how do I go about getting this car back, as I fear he will not make the payments, and in the process, smash it up and will leave it to me to pay back my grandmother for a car that is no longer drivable or even worse?
He is now back in California, and I am here in Nevada.
I thought about getting it re-regestered in my name only, or in my grandmothers name...If so, how do I go about getting the car back legally? I do have the title, as it was a personal loan from my grandmother..so the car dealer was paid in cash. Thanks for any advise

My response:

The car is yours also. If you have an extra set of keys, take a bus to California, find the car, drive it back to Nevada, re-register the car in your name, only, immediately. That way, when he steals the car back, you can have him arrested for vehicular theft (Grand Theft Auto).
