I have been married for 8 years. I have had a very successful position in my company for 4 years now. Here is the problem; my husband is verbally abusive, an alcoholic, will not hold a steady job, has evey excuse in the world why he does not have to work, runs up all the bills which I pay, looks at porn all day on the computer or hunts, what rights do I have? I live in Ohio. will I have to pay him supoport? Will I have to give him my 401K? WE have property what right do I have to it if he can not pay? I am at the end of my rope with his threats and inuendos. OPlease give me honest and prudent advice.

Well, first thing is first. Get a legal separation and document everything after that. This will help lessen the blow.

As to what you will have to pay and not pay will depend on the marital laws in your state and if your lawyer can argue successfully in your favor. I.e. your husband looks at porn, no job, doesn't contribute, etc.

This may help shift the bulk of the marital assets to you and the debts HE ran up to him.
