Yes i was gonna purchase a car from ebay i paid the 500 deposit and i decided to back out on the deal after i gave him the 500 dollars via paypal.
I filed a dispute on paypal for my 500 dollars back they decided in his favor.
im over that now he said he was gonna file a small claims suit can he do this and if he does what is he trying to get out of me since i no longer want the car?
he lives near nj.

What makes you think you can just back out of buying the car?

How did you fund the paypal payment. If you did it through a credit card you may be able to sway them with your sob story. Otherwise you're probably out of luck unless you want to go take him to court. You may get some of the money back in court, but he'll certainly be able to claim some damages against you.

I found out that the check engine light was on and heard some stories about people getting ripped off on eBay and i didn't want to send 18,000.00 to someone i didn't know and i couldn't fly out there to check it out. So i decide i didn't want the car anymore and wanted to buy locally.
What kind of damages? He didnt have to pay for shipping i was gonna arrange and he said he had alot of other buyers.
