I live in Florida. I signed my lease on Sept. 22, 2000. I have asked several times for a copy of my lease. I have been told that it hasn't been signed by the right person in the office so I can't have it. Do I have a lease? Is it legal? If I decide to move in July or August 2001 can I get out of the lease? What can I do within my legal bounds? Thank you for your help....

You must send a letter certified mail return reciept...dont be cheap spend the $4....

Demanding a copy of your lease......and of course keep a copy of the letter and the return reciept...DO NOT EVER EVER LOSE THIS...... landlords have been known to sue tenants after they vacate, and years later you find out there is a judgement against you and if you dont keep ALL of the paperwork....... YOU LOSE!!!!

If they refuse, then you are on a month to month lease and can give them a 30 day notice to move, make sure you have ALL your reciepts cancelled checks for your deposit..in case they sue you for breaking a non existant lease that just happens to show up at court!

NEXT time DO NOT GIVE THE LANDLORD MONEY WITHOUT A SIGNED COPY OF THE LEASE...BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
