okay this is the deal i have a 96 gmc jimmy. i bought it august of 02, so two years. my first 3 months the truck was running great but then month 4, tranny went, it was slipping, and not lining up when putting it into gear. the dealership took the truck and fixed the issue, every other week, the truck was going into the shop, for the same issues. i finally had enough went back to the dealership and said look, i can't have this truck in and out of the shop, i have kids and need a reliable and safe vehicle for us. so they agreed to take the truck and make whatever repairs needed to be done to it. according to them, they put in over 4000 bucks, well on top of this i have already put into this truck 2000. every other week it has been in the shop and now they won't take it in as a trade in or work with me on this matter, i don't want this truck and the pain that i have been going through. now its had a rebuilt tranny put into it and now every other week its back in the shop, like tonight takin back because tranny is shifting down instead of into high gear. what or is there any action i can take ? please help.

sell it on e-bay.
pour gas over it and break out the hot dogs
put it on blocks and lower the property value of your neighbors until someone buys it from you.

more?

tried all that....

thanks for the advice, i thought of every scenerio out there, but i am a chicken and to get in a lawyers office to talk about this will cost me.....like i have not spent so much on this darn piece of crap. thing is i still owe so much on it and the blue book on it, is crap and it just all sucks my first buying a car experience went to hell.....

You might not be able to do much now about that old Jimmy, but can I offer some advice?

Never think that a 6 year old American made car will be reliable. And, never trust what anyone tells you about a car except your own mechanic. People selling cars are not going to give you the honest truth sometimes, so although 75% of car sales are relatively honest(I am guessing here), the other 25% you need to be wary of...

Good luck... and next time, think Japanese!!

I TOLD THEM THAT THERE WAS A LOUD HUMMING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE NEW SENDING UNIT AND NOW THEY ARE SAYING THAT I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIX? IS THAT TRUE OR WHAT....I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THIS CRAP ALL MEANS. HELPPPPPP

Get a new mechanic. Are you a woman? If so, bring a man to the mechanic shop. You could be being played like a fiddle. Go find a website with lemon laws or automotive advice. Find a Jimmy website.

Always get thorough inspection before buying

That Doesn't Help My Situation, I Was Just Wondering If Anyone Out There Could Let Me Know If Its The Same Thing Or Two Different Parts And Yes I Am A Woman!

Not trying to be a pig, just stating the reality of the business. I've done mechanics, auto-painting, and Air Conditioning before I stepped up into the #1 stereotyped occupation for lying, cheating and stealing. All are honorable occupations with many outstanding members. However, all of these fields require knowledge that lets face it most don't grasp or know. This provides a huge market for predators. Being a woman, dealing with mechanics, (not trying to be chauvinistic) opens up the possibilities that you are getting the run around. Alternatively, the mechs may be incompetent.

So that being said, network around to family and friends in search of a good mech. There always is a good trustworthy mech, 7 removed from Kevin Bacon.

I never heard of a sending unit making alot of noise. It could be leaking though.

I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WERE NOT BEING A MALE PIG, I AM NOT ONE TO GET ALL HUFFY ABOUT THAT STUFF. OKAY MY TRUCK WAS SMELLING OF GAS AND I SAW A FEW DRIPS OF GAS ON MY TIRE, SO I TOOK IT IN (THE ONLY REASON WHY I AM STICKING WITH THESE GUYS IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE DONE THE REBUILT AND ALL WORK DONE ON THE TRANNY) SO THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW GAS TANK, IT WAS RUSTED (IT WAS PLASTIC) ANYWAYS I HAD THEM CHANGE IT AND NOW THERE IS A HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM THE GAS TANK? EVER HEAR OF ANYTHING LIKE THAT, SO YESTERDAY I TALKED WITH HIM AND HE WAS LIKE IT COULD BE THE SENDING UNIT WHERE THEY CHANGED THE GAS TANK OR FUEL PUMP(NOT SURE BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO ASK QUESTIONS BECAUSE HE WAS IN A HURRY) BUT I WANTED TO BEEF UP ON MY KNOWLEDGE BEFORE TALKING TO HIM TODAY.

It sounds all so fishy. If they replaced your rusty 'plastic' tank, all that jazz following should be under some kind of workmanship warranty. You got to stick the dang sending unit in the tank when installed! If it leaks, they installed it. Hold them to warranty. Unless you went to a reputable business(?), there should be some kind of warranty on their workmanship.

I know the deal, everytime I send my wife to get say the car inspected(because that's simple right?) they try to throw in some kind of $300 dollar job. As far as the tranny deal. Thousands of dollars every year disappear on this work. It's all a scam. My brother is a mechanic currently making twice the amount as I. It's a shame considering I paid over $100000 in tuition for my schooling. One of the best things you do in life, is to find or 'be' a Jack of all trades, master of none. Then you can screw your self.

If you want real advise (sorry to say) don't by American. Especially an SUV. SUVs are not designed for commuting and high speeds. Why do you think the trannies go out in them? Do you purchase combat boots for ballet? Check out lemon law websites. It may be too late being a used car purchaser, but you may get compensation for the tranny if there exists a recall or such.

It's the Fuel pump that is making the humming noise and will cost about $300.00 to fix... Also, changing a plastic tank because it was rusted? Sounds like you need to find a new mechanic... Send a letter to the BBB and your Attorney General...

And for those of you who say American cars suck, I have a 92 TC with 255K miles on it, original engine, and transmission. It's more reliable then my friends 02' Honda Accord...

So why all of a sudden it would start humming? It never did that until they changed the gas tank and the sending unit or whatever it is that goes in the gas tank. I called a dealership and they stated that if someone changes the gas tank(plastic rusting, was not a great sign) but they stated that if the ring around the gas tank could of rusted that is why they probably did this, but if they changed that they should of changed everything else because it came as all one unit. So the fuel pump, is not or all the same part of that system? All this has made me contact the Attorney General's office. I figured I am stuck with this mess for the next two years, but its crazy that all this is happening, (black cloud, as usual)!

well i have my truck....and they claim that it was all due to a wiring harness. gmc had recalled this back when and the dealership or the previous owner never took the truck in to get the updated part. so they are claiming this has to do with everything that has been wrong with the truck....not sure anyone out there can tell me what the purpose or job of a wiring harness is for?

First off, recalls are done free by dealerships. I just took my 94 Jeep in for service and discovered two recalls. I recently bought this Jeep used. They replaced the recall parts for free. That is the standard. Hell, I spoke with the previous owner and he told me he had the recall parts replaced just as I did. (That is a whole other scam buy dealerships).

Sounds like those guys have no #$%$% clue. If you search the web, you should find info on the recall they are talking about. Still sounds fishy.

Is this a GMC dealership or a used car dealership?

this is a gmc dealership. i picked up my truck on friday, seemed like it was running fine. but now it is monday and i have to drop the $#@%in thing off again, check engine light came on, its winding from first to second gear and now whatever they did, they didn't bother to check to see if my 4 wheel drive was working properly. So I am just lost with this whole mess. i will leave the keys in the truck if someone is willing to come pick it up, lol.....
