What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

I live in Illinois. Years ago (about 1995) I bought a 1995 Jeep Cherokee and financed it through Chrysler Credit for five years. I was living in Illinois at the time. I paid off about two thirds of the loan but lost the payment book and stopped making payment. Don't remember why exactly but I was moving around a lot and very busy. The lender never was able to catch up with me and never able to contact me or repossess the vehicle. I would love to pay-off and clear the title so that I can donate it or junk it but after all this time I can't seem to find record of the loan. I tried contacting Chrysler Financial but no joy. I need to clear the title lien. Any ideas?

You can go to the Illinois SOS site and type in the VIN and find out whether the lien is there. If it is, your best bet is to again try whoever has the lien with the VIN # and see if they can find it.
