I have some general questions regarding the handling of a lease. My gf's lease runs until 11/30/2014 but she hasn't lived in her apartment for the last month. The apartment has signed a new lease with a new tenant that takes effect on 11/1/2014. My question is, does that new lease make my gf's lease void? Also, my gf and her roommate agreed to put $400 down for a new tenant to move in but put nothing in writing and just gave confirmation via email. Can they take that $400 back or are they going to be out that money as well? They gave the apartment manager notification in July that they will be moving out on Sept 30 and they never showed the apartment one time until after they moved out.
