What is the name of your state? Penna.
Can anyone tell me about workers comp attorneys. My friends is taking 20% of his checks. The ins.co. wanted to stop his checks. His lawyer showed up for 15 mins and is taking 20% of his bi weekly checks.this is over and above the 20% he will get when he settles which he is sure to do. Can anyone tell me if this is a common practice? Also it has been over three years since he filed suit is this also common?

The attorney is allowed by statute to take 20% of all indemnity benefits collected. This includes 20% of the temporary total disability benefits (weekly checks) and 20% of the permanent partial and/or permanent total disability benefits when the case is settled.
Your friend filed a claim with the state not a lawsuit. The length of time for settlement or for the administrative law judge to decide, depends on the nature and extent of the injuries claimed by your friend and when he was placed at maximum medical improvement by the doctor.
