What is the name of your state? NJ. March 20th i was i started basic in fort benning Georiga. i was in reception for a week. before i was on emergency medical leave because of a medical problem at home.Idid not even start basic yet.I was to be back on May 11th. Called company commander several times to get leave extended. Company commander never returned my calls.Spoke with him yesterday May 11th at 4:00pm. He told me he put me on the awol list.I told him my problem at home has gotten worse. He told me that in about 30 day i will be on the deserter list if i do not come back. So my question is their anything that they really do to me. Because i did not even start basic yet. Also if this helps i signed up for Army National Guard. With problems at home me being away will only make things worse. Also when i came home i went to doctor. And diagnosed with asthma faxed medical papers to Company Commander. He said i will get a medical discharge. He told me it will take 3 weeks to get a discharge. But i can not be away from home for that period of time. So any help will be great.

thank you
Tom

get ahold of your congressman- or the post Inspector General-- if what you are saying is as bad as it sounds then they should be able to help you..

Presumably, you took the oath at a MEPS and then traveled to boot camp. It doesn't really matter that you "never started" boot camp, left from 'reception', etc. You are property of the U.S. government. Immediately contact the Red Cross and let them know your situation. They will get in touch with the military about extending leave and investigate if the military is dubious about your story. There may be complications if you have already been listed as AWOL, but do what it takes.

As to miraculously coming down with Asthma within the last weeks.... I doubt you are going to get a "medical discharge". Rather, you are likely to get an entry level seperation with some kind of code for going AWOL.
